What it Means to Me

So what does it mean, "if we still have one"? Simple question, right? Not really. If we still have one is more of a statement of value, a question that we ask about someone with the implication being that someone or something does so little or is around so infruquently that we have to ask if we even still have it -or them. Take this man for instant. The poor guy is kicked out of his office (probably by me) and forced to work in the cafeteria. And what comments does he recieve for his efforts to get something done? "Nice life" (first cousin to if we still have one).

But of course sometimes such comments are deserved. Take this tabloid headline. I've been wondering for ages what happened to the Miller Lite TV guy if we still have one.Turns out the poor guy's a werewolf. Nice life!

But couldn't we get along better? Maybe a little more understanding. If we still have one...

The Start of the Holiday Season -If we still have one

Twas the day after the day after Thanksgiving and again I'm left to ponder the inevitable question; "if we still have one." Survivng the holidays is something that a lot of people face, but for some of us it's a profession. For the next four weeks (or so) I'll be documenting our progress as well as asking over and over that eternal question, "do we still have one?"
